Doorstep fundraising - RSPCA National door to door fundraising campaign
This was the first major campaign run by the Society using a face to face approach to ask for regular gifts. The aim was to recruit 60,000 new supporters and raise £5.6 million net over five years.
The RSPCA works with a Professional Fundraising Company who provide door to door fundraisers through a number of regional offices. The fundraisers visited homes around England and Wales to collect, via Direct Debit, regular monthly donations which were paid directly into the RSPCA’s bank account.
The whole process is governed by the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA), a voluntary self-regulatory body for organisations involved in fundraising by direct debit on the street and door-to-door.
The costs involved in bringing in new supporters were similar to that of traditional media (like mailings) and the campaign went into profit a year earlier than predicted. Income will continue to rise over the longer term since many supporters will continue to donate beyond the five-year point on which original estimates were made.
The RSPCA believes that modern fundraising is a long-term investment and has since run further successful door to door campaigns.
